The Victor Reader Stratus is digital talking book, MP3, and CD player designed specifically for ease of use for blind users. It's lot like its little sister, the very popular Victor Reader Stream. And yes, you can download and play books from NLS (National Library Service - BARD website). But there are some significant differences that may be better for you depending upon your need.
- The Stratus is larger with bigger sound and can't be carried in your pocket like the Stream. It's a nice size with a carrying handle: 8.7 x 8.5 x 1.9 inches and just 2.1 pounds, battery included. For good sound you do not have to wear earphones or headphones.
- Another advantage to a bigger size is bigger buttons. It has a large number pad and other buttons for convenient navigation but you can also put on a keypad covers most of the non-essential buttons, making it very simple to operate with a few buttons similar to that of a CD player.
- The Status plays MP3 and DAISY CD's - the Victor Stream cannot. You can also play content from your SD card and USB flash stick.
Besides playing DAISY and MP3 books and music on SD cards, CDs, and USB flash drives, it also has a text-to-speech engine inside. This means, with a synthetic voice, it can read aloud your text documents in any of these formats: BRF, DOCX, RTF, txt, html, xml.
